Mackay radio station SEA FM is in fear of imploding - more than 20
staff have resigned in recent months with the latest resignation &
departure being the recently appointed station manger leaving an
in house staff of only 5 people.
Long serving breakfast announcer Ashleigh Mac was removed from air
two days before he was due to sign off on friday while bugetary problems were stated as the reason for the sacking of cruiser driver Will Smith yesterday by the program director - although an immediate female replacement didn't seem to attract the same bugetary problems - but we guess it's pretty cheap to put your receptionist into a cruiser.

sales and back of house systems and productions.

 There is to be no Auction of 3AK with the license being leased to
Sports Entertainment Network for 3 years adding a refreshing
and long over-due Sport line-up 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The new yet to be name format begins on Jan 1 2004.
The station is being headed up by  Danny Staffiere, the man
heralded as turning around the fortunes of Adelaide's 5AA.
One has to feel for the dedicated 3AK staff that during the second
half of this year have certainly given their all to make the Talk
format work.
The 3AK Newsroom will close on Friday the 28th of November
 Southern Cross News being fed to both 3AK and 3MP from 'am'
Saturday.
From 5TH of December program producers will go and the current
on air programming will revert to more music with a talk - magazine
format. The station will continue along these lines until the 31st of
December.

Which casual announcer spends more time outside smoking than presenting
and in doing so is continually causing his station to go off air by not
getting back to the 'puter in time .Happened twice in one night with
one gap being for some minutes before staff of the other station could
find him. The same jock is always complaining to all who will
listen that he doesn't get enough shifts. Word is they will be even less now.

Matt Tilley to be joined by Jo Stanely, Chris Bennett and
Adam Richard from Monday on the 'Matt, Jo and Benno
show'. Troy Ellis will be the anchor.

will their move to 1620 affect 3XX on 1611AM?
Pockets of Melbourne now has 3XX booming in and
the station has never sounded as good as it does at
the moment, but for how much longer? As for 3XX

and they  need to be congratulated with the changes.

total of $40,000 and are these morons responsible for

Anyone who saw the Australian Idol finale would have seen
Stu Campbell's performance of 'Hard to Handle'. Did anyone notice that in
the last bit of the song, instead of singing 'mama I'm hard to handle',
he sang 'mama I'm a Hot Tomato'? Stu has been doing some work for the
new Gold Coast radio station 'Hot Tomato', and seems to be proud of it!

Tracy Bartram has resigned from FOX FM and will sign off at
9.00am today. At one stage widely tipped to take over drive
Bartram has decided to put family first in 2004 and will be
more than likely be replaced by Jo Stanely.
We tipped this on the 5/11 with the quote
'Yet to be convinced Tracy will take over drive'

Jim Hilcke is on high rotation across a few Melbourne
Radio stations doing a commercial for Prime Life.
 Jim, a radio veteran, was last heard on air doing
summer fill in breakfast with Rob Hicks at 3AK.
He departed soon after in early 2001.

Now that Laws is back for another 7 years could SCB use
this as a deal to buy 2SM ?Caralis would get Laws again on his
supernetwork  and SCB would get 2SM in combo with 2UE.
The Caralis owned 2HD already has Laws .
 SCB chairman John Dahlson said last week how they still want a 2nd
radio station in Sydney but won't pay to much for it hence a bargaining
deal is more like it Laws  for 2SM. It  would be a win win for both!

John Laws has signed on for another 7 years to do
his 2UE morning show that is networked to over 60
stations across the nation. Subtle hints were dropped in
breakfast with Mike Carlton that Laws would be making
a huge announcement at noon. 2UE's switchboard was

Laws has once again  indicated  he may stay on for a
while yet. Speaking today at a lunch celebrating his 50
years of broadcasting Lawsy said 'The jury is still out and
in my case that will probably be a real jury.'

judging by the article in todays  Australian Financial Review.
 Sir Richard Branson said Virgin Group would spend a couple of hundred
million snapping up radio licences to establish a national radio station
- negotiations  are under way in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

Austereo in Sydney are about to announce that the 2Day FM Morning Crew
will be ending their 11 year run at the end of 2003.
 Wendy Harmer along with Paul Holmes are said to be leaving the
station with Greg Fleet left  in limbo. Names mentioned for 2004 are
flying thick and fast but include Judith Lucy, Tracy Bartram (our wildcard)
and the queen of Big Brother Gretel Killeen.
 Harmer told industry sources this morning 'Its all good news' in reference
to sticking her alarm clock in the sock draw in 2004.

Sydney's Radio 2 has just put to air about 15 new
transmitters in many places including all capital cities
Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Dubbo, Newcastle and
Gold Coast. Scattered around the top end of the dial
at either 1611, 1620 or 1629 frequency.
The station boasts it has a potential audience of 12
million listeners.

Appears Leon Delaney who was on tweed coast station Radio97 is doing

Is history about to repeat itself entirely with Wendy Harmer
at 2-DAY FM whose relationship with Peter Moon was said
to be strained even on a good day.  (he did the show from
Melbourne) Well when he finished she got her old mate
Greg Fleet hired to replace him. Well now they are said
to be just as strained so much that Fleet is allegedly doing
most of his shows from Melbourne like Peter did.

Triple your Music, well it depends on what tune!
At 6:55pm on 05/11/03 James Engelman played the
signature tune "Stairway to Heaven" as the last song
on the old 104.7 Adelaide's MMM. The record was then
heard to scratch and fade away, thereby ending an era of
the old Triple M since it began in 1994 in Adelaide and
heralding the beginning of the all new Triple M - totally different. 
Expect lots of Jet and 50 cent as Austereo gears up for the
Nova battle in 2004. Check the current web page out  and

Mike Norris a name mentioned by a trusty contributor weeks
ago has bought Jeff Chatfields 17% share of DCL.
Will Mike Norris make a bid for DCL now .Will 3AK become a
clone of Magic693,if Norris takes charge. When he owned
Star106.9 which was a GOLD station along with 4BH an
easy music outfit so will 3MP and 3AK be run the same way.
Will 3AK have a possible name change as well.

Brett de Hoedt has taken the crown at 3AK
with his shift 9pm to Midnight rating the highest
at 1%. An appalling overall result the stations listener
woes have turned the corner this survey. Possible but
not confirmed the last with this current line up if a buyer
decides to pull the plug on or after November 28th the
date 3AK goes under the hammer.

The dust has all but settled on survey 7 and it is
time for most stations to look to 2004 and see exactly
where and what they are going to do with programming.
As revealed here weeks ago it looks like Tracy and Matt FOX FM
will end their breafast reign with Jo Stanely widely tipped for the
role. Yet to be convinced Tracy will move to drive.

own DMG's 5AA has recorded its best ever ratings
result. Rising across the day Breakfast won the survey
and drive with KG AND Cornesy also won achieving
their best result in over 5 years.
